MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF NADEM

WELCOME TO NADEM

Dr. Leonard Ranasinghe, President of NADEM, who is a graduate from the University of Ceylon with a degree in Agriculture. Then came to the United States on a A Fulbright-Hays scholar program and completed a Master’s degree in 1973 and Ph.D. degree in 1976 at the University of California at Riverside in Entomology-Toxicology. Afterwards, completed his medical degree in 1981 at Linda University School of Medicine. Then, completed his internship at the Kettering Medical Center. Has been an attending Emergency Medicine physician since, 1983 with a vast array of both urban settings from 1988-1998 such as, the Emergency Departments at Kaiser Hospitals in Sacramento in. Also has been in academic as well during the years at Kaiser in Sacramento, due to duties as an Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of California at Davis Emergency Medicine residency program. In 1998, went overseas, as he took a sabbatical from Kaiser and worked in Emergency Medicine for one year at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and, then later for six additional years at one of the Saudi Aramco Hospitals in Saudi Arabia, including three years as the Head Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at that facility. He returned to Kaiser Sacramento, in April 2007 and retired from there in November 2010. Then again, another overseas work assignment when in 2010-2012 went to New Zealand and worked in Emergency Medicine. Most recently, since 2012, he has been working part-time as an Emergency Physician in rural and community Emergency Departments. In, 2015, his goal was to give back to the field of Emergency Medicine which he has enjoyed for 40 years, thus he joined the California Northstate University College of Medicine in December as a Professor of Medical Education and Emergency Medicine, and is the Director of Emergency Medicine Clerkship.

The focus is to support Rural and Community Emergency Medicine which is a challenge and requires a special set of skills. This is an opportunity to get certification.

-FIRST, SHOW CONTINUED WORK IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE FOR 3 YEARS.


-SECOND, PROFICIENCY IN STANDARD PROCEDURES.


-THIRD, COMPLETE THE CERTIFICATION EXAMINATION.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS: TESTING

-THE TESTING PROCESS WILL BE A 100 QUESTION MULTIPLE CHOICE EXAM THAT ENCOMPASSES THE FUNDAMENTALS OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE.


-AN APPLICANT MUST ACHIEVE A PASSING SCORE OF 80% FOR PASSING.

- CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE.

- GASTROINTESTINAL DISEASE.

-GYNECOLOGY/OBSTETRICS DISEASE.

-UROLOGICAL DISEASE.

-HEMATOLOGY/ONCOLOGY DISEASE.

-NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE.

-TRAUMA.

ONCE COMPLETED THE APPLICANT, WILL HAVE ACHIEVED THE CERTIFICATION STANDARD IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE WITH THE NORTH AMERICAN DELEGATION OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE.
